Customers will have a choice between a 3-year and a 4-year lease. For the Empulse R (retail price $18,995), the down payment will be $2,469 and the monthly payment $325 (3-year lease) or $299 (4-year lease). For the Empulse (retail price $16,995), the down payment will be $2,209 and the monthly payment $299 (3-year lease) or $269 (4-year lease).
Any marketing initiative to promote electric motorcycles has to be applauded, and a lease might reassure potential customers worried about resale value and battery longevity. But we can’t help noticing that these lease costs are rather high. For example, the Fiat 500e, which has about the same price as an Empulse R once the federal and state incentives are deducted in California, is available for a $999 down payment and $199 per month over 36 months. Of course this is a lease heavily subsidized by Fiat, but it makes us hope that someday Brammo will offer a leasing promotion that will make the Empulse much more affordable.
