EICMA is celebrating its 100th anniversary and it is still the biggest motorcycle show in the world.

Very different atmosphere compared to Intermot in Cologne: lots of beautiful women-models on every stand. It is more Italo-centric, with fewer English-speaking exhibitors. There is no e-motion pavilion like at Intermot, the internal combustion engine is still king here. Except for the big and very popular Energica stand, where the new “Eva” concept, a “naked” version of the Ego, was introduced.

On the American side, Zero is not present. And Brammo not really either, but the Italian importer, OMT Garage, has a small stand with 2 Empulse and 2 Enertia, one of them with the Monster energy drink colors that actually looks very good. The importer seemed frustrated by the lack of support from Brammo, mentioning that the American firm “did not contribute one penny to the stand”… Asked about the 2015 models, he said that they should appear in March or April of next year, with more power and improved range. OMT Garage has been importing Brammo models for four years, and is also the importer for Switzerland. He noted that it is much easier to sell an electric motorcycle in Switzerland than in Italy, because attitudes were very different in northern Europe than in southern Europe.

That leaves Harley Davidson to represent the US, with an electric Livewire in the middle of its stand. KTM shows its full range of Freeride models. Tacita has no stand, but invited journalists to test its off-road bikes at a track outside Milan. The Indian firm Hero brought its ION fuel cell concept. No last minute electric surprises from the major manufacturers…
