The electric Harley Davidson is (almost) here

Rumors of the past few days turned out to be true: Harley presented its Project Livewire electric motorcycle.

Although it is just a concept, it is a rather stunning design for a Harley. Details are sketchy, but it has a 55 kW (74 hp) electric engine with 52lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 92 mph, and it goes from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds.

Harley will invite customers to test ride the concept to get feedback. A 2014 U.S. tour – kicking off with a journey down Route 66 – will visit more than 30 Harley-Davidson dealerships now through the end of the year. In 2015, the Project LiveWire Experience will continue in the U.S. and expand into Canada and Europe.

This is great news for electric motorcycles in general. Harley Davidson is a mythical  brand, and this validates the concept of electric motorcycles. The mass media have finally an interesting story to tell about electric motorcycles. And the other established motorcycle brands will have to answer with their own electric concepts, because they cannot let Harley be the only one to get all this free publicity. So let the fight begin!
