The third annual E-MX Race of Champions and the Tacita one-on-one Challenge were held a few weeks ago at the Zolder circuit in Belgium in front of 2,500 spectators.

The two races were the highlights of the Zolder circuit’s tradititional Clean Week 2020 event, dedicated to alternative mobility and motorsport. The E-MX Race of Champions opposed stars from the motocross world against newcomers from 11 countries, all of them racing identical KTM Freeride E electric bikes. The 2015 edition was won by Red Bull KTM Factory rider Pauls Jonass, from Latvia.

In the final of the Tacita one-on-one Challenge, Italian Diego Pederiva beat the five-time motocross world champion from Belgium Joël Smets. The Belgian rider was rather impressed by the Tacita, declaring “I have followed the evolution of electric bikes quite closely in last couple of years. It was great to discover that Tacita T Race is a true cross bike, not a “pimped” mountain bike!”.

Car racing has the Formula E championship; where is the equivalent for motorcycle racing? The FIM should wake up!

“Ho Chi Fung won the first Moto E race in Assen, Netherland, on his Zongshen electric motorcycle.

Moto E is the new electric motorcycle championship sanctioned by the FIM, the global entity that governs most motorcycle racing.”
