It’s ski season for Volta!

Volta Motorbikes has just released a picture of the snow bike it is developing.

It is based of course on its BCN 125cc-equivalent bike that we presented a few month ago: http://cleanrider.com/europe-volta-finally-coming/

Alas, we are still waiting for the production bikes to reach dealers… We contacted Volta and were assured that the first units will be delivered to the distributors in 2 weeks. If true, it will be interesting to see if the production models deliver on all the claims made by Volta.

It seems that the Spanish manufacturer has been very successful at putting together an international distribution network: the website claims to have distributors in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Czech Republic, Netherland, Portugal, Switzerland and… Mexico. No US distributor yet, but Volta says it is working on it.

Will Volta be able to match the sales of the BMW C-evolution, of which 957 units were sold in 2015? Is the 125cc-equivalent the sweet spot for electric bikes in Europe? With Zero and Volta entering this market, we should have an answer very soon.

The snow bike looks like a shop project rather than a real production machine.
The motorbike looks suspiciously like the Zero FX.
I do not see the direct competition with the C evolution because it is not a scooter, and scooters, gas or electric, low on performance, high on personal comfort and storage, have been all the rage in city transport.
Success will depend on price. if it takes 10 years of riding electric to compensate for the price differential vis-a-via the gas bikes, this too shall be a curio rather than mainstream.
