Introduced in Spain last year, the Xkuty electric scooter/moped is now also available in France and in the UK.

Electric Mobility Company (EMC) from Alicante, Spain, is slowly expanding the distribution of its electric vehicle, the Xkuty, which is a cross between a scooter and a moped. It only weighs from 42 to 46 kg (92 to 101 lbs), has no pedals and goes up to 45 km/h (28 mph).

The 1.5 kW electric engine is mounted in the rear hub, and the disk brakes are regenerative. An iPhone or iOS app for your smart phone acts as a control hub from which you’ll get all the information required to run your Xkuty.

Different versions are available, depending on battery capacity:

17 Ah , for a range of 40 km (25 miles), priced at 2800 € ($3.818)

23 Ah, for a range of 50 km (31 miles), priced at 2900 € ($4,022)

2 X 23 Ah, for a range of 100 km (62 miles), priced at 3600 € ($4,908)

EMC claims to have sold more than 400 Xkuty so far. Of course, there is competition in Europe for this kind of electric vehicles, among them the Yamaha EC-03 and the Matra e-MO. But the Xkuty is probably the cutest one, despite its strange name…
